Green to purplish red.  Foliage stays on tree later than rest of oaks.

Acorns 3/4 - 1 inch

Green, 5-10 inch long with 7-11 bristle tipped lobes

Moderate growing. Unique bark has ridges topped with shiny strips that go all the way to the bottom of the tree.  Branches grow at right angles.  Native to North America.  Will tolerate sandy loam or acid soil.
